Harold Loyd Grantham Sr., 89, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 in Sugar Land. He was born December 14, 1925 in Jesup, Georgia to Ferd Edward and Ada Elizabeth Williams Grantham.

Harold served our nation as a Navy seaman during WWII, as a crew member on the Destroyer Escort (D.E.) USS Leland E. Thomas. Harold began his naval career before he graduated high school. Leaving the safe surrounding of a classroom to answer the country's call of duty in January 1943 and served our nation until the cessation of the war and the victory was complete in September 1945; and began his post military career in Houston as an apprentice painter working for an established Houston firm helping to fuel and support a rapid housing expansion in post war Houston. In 1961 Harold established his own painting contractor company in Houston providing jobs and economic growth for countless employees and their families. His company was uniquely positioned to help grow some of Houston's most famed neighborhoods: Meyerland Park, River Oaks, Tanglewood, Briarcroft, and the Braeswood area among many others. He expanded his company in the late 60's, providing services for commercial construction, particularly office buildings and for the 24 years he owned and managed his company, Harold provided the leadership and business acumen necessary at assist in the major transformation of Houston. His company helped herald the growth of Houston as a business community on the world stage.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jo Ann Robberson Grantham, 4 children, Harold Lloyd Grantham Jr. and wife Tamara, Edwin A. "Buddy" Grantham and wife Julie, Deborah Lynn Kaeser, Gary Wayne Grantham, 17 grandchildren, Christy Ford, James, Jeremy, Jeffrey and Jennifer Grantham, Kathleen Shannahan, William Grantham, Edwin Pierce, Kacey Bupp, Kayleigh, Kiley, Colby, Joshua, and Kayla Kaeser, Brittney, Jessica and Sandra Grantham, 14 great grandchildren, Xander, Hunter, Jeremiah, Johannah, Jaxon, Evelynn, James, Nathan, Elizabeth, Michale, Cathryn, Ty, Callen and Jonathan.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, three sisters, and his daughter Dorothy Ann Ewing.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral home with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends starting at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday until the service time.
