Johnny Heitman (1938-2015) After a short, but brave fight with a sudden illness, Johnny Heitman passed away on July 17, 2015, surrounded by his wife, daughter and son-in law. Johnny was born on July 7, 1938, in Sugar Land, Texas, to Henry Heitman, Sr., and Frances Trojanowski-Heitman. Johnny attended Sugar Land High School graduating in 1957. Upon graduating high school, Johnny began a very long career working as a mechanic for the Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land, Texas, giving 46 years of service before the Sugar Land factory closed in 2003. Johnny served in the Army Reserves for four years. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus St. Basil Council 4204 in Sugar Land. Johnny loved to hunt and fish; loved playing softball, bowling and golf. In the prime of his life, if there was a sport being played at a family gathering, he was going to be right in the center of the action. He was a family man, always there for his wife and daughter, enjoying summer family vacations which consisted of road trips all over the country. He also had a love of vegetable gardening, eating what he could and giving the rest away to neighbors and friends. He loved to be outside in the yard, mowing his lawn, trimming his trees and also helping his daughter with yard work at her house. Father and daughter bonded over dirt under the nails, many days of hard work and Wednesday chicken pot pie lunches at Cracker Barrel. He loved riding the bus to Louisiana with family and friends, playing the slot machines at numerous casinos and when he came home, he would give you an ear full about all the good food. Any time he ate a good meal he would let people know about it.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 51 years Dolares, their daughter, Melinda and son-in-law, Steven Schleicher; his beloved "grand" birds as he called them, Shamrock and Oliver; his brothers, Frank Heitman, Sr.; Henry Heitman, Jr., and wife Helen; Carlos Heitman and wife Jeanette; his sisters, Josephine Anderson, and husband Leon; and Peggy Kenvin, and husband Ken. He is also survived by aunts, numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death are his parents, his sister Sofie Rapoza; nephew Frank Heitman, Jr., and niece Karen Mehlenbacher.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 5-8 P.M. at St Theresa's Catholic Church with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M.
