Norbert J. Janis, 86, of East Bernard, passed away on October 2, 2015 at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas.

Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:00 PM followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM.

Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Burial/Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Davis Greenlawn in Rosenberg are handling the funeral arrangements.

Norbert was born in East Bernard to John & Angeline Janis on October 24, 1928. He served as an Army Corporal in the Korean War as a Radio Operator. On July 10, 1955 he married his wife of 60 years, Vernice Konvicka of Moravia, Texas. They lived their married life in East Bernard and raised 5 intelligent, talented, successful, strong willed children of which he was extremely proud. He worked all his life as a farmer and carpenter. He even worked a short period for Brown & Root, building the South Texas Nuclear Power Plant. He enjoyed farming until the last days of his life, taking care of his family homestead, fishing, feeding his catfish, raising his guineas, being with his family and keeping up with his grandchildren.

Norbert is preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Matilda Janis, Marie Novosad and Claudia Konvicka.

Norbert is survived by his wife, Vernice, his son, NJ & Wendy Janis of Huffman, TX, daughters Debbie & Michael Nelson of Apex, NC, Wanda Janis of Sugar Land. Tish Babin of East Bernard, and Kay Kay & Charlie Davis of Huntsville. Grandchildren: Nicole & Adam Nelson, Brady, Brandy, Brent & Brooke Babin, Kelsey & Kirsten Janis, and Dalton & Samantha Davis. Sisters: Angeline Grigar, Lillian Simmons, Bernadette Janis, and Sidonia Miller.
