Alfred Edwin Emil Vahlkamp, Jr. was born in Paducah, KY on May 31, 1932. He earned his B.S. in Business from the University of Kentucky. He was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years, which included a 10-month tour in Greenland. Al married Merle Ruth McIntosh in 1957. They moved to Evanston, Illinois where Al earned his Masters of Commerce at the University Of Chicago School Of Business.
Al and Merle moved to Libertyville, Illinois where they lived for 13 years and had 3 children. They moved to Alexandria, Louisiana in 1970, where they lived for 34 years. Al and Merle opened a Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream franchise in Alexandria and Pineville, Louisiana.
Al was an active member of the Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church in Alexandria. He was also active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Cenla. He supported Dixie Youth Baseball and the Alexandria Swim Team for many years. Al was also an active member in the Louisiana Restaurant Association.
Al and Merle moved to Texas in 2005. Al has been in declining health for many years. Al is preceded in death by his parents Alfred Edwin Emil Vahlkamp, Sr. and Ira Marie Lowry Vahlkamp. He is survived by his wife, Merle Ruth McIntosh Vahlkamp; daughters, Gretchen Paige Vahlkamp Danly of Tyler, Texas and Ingrid Leigh Vahlkamp Stassi, of Missouri City, Texas; son, Alfred Edwin "Win" Emil Vahlkamp, III of Meadows Place, Texas; brother, Charles Gustave Vahlkamp of Danville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Christopher Danly, Elizabeth Danly, Maria Danly, Abby Vahlkamp, Michael Stassi, William Vahlkamp, Rachel Vahlkamp and Grace Vahlkamp.
The First United Methodist Church of Missouri City (3900 Lexington Blvd, Missouri City, Texas) will host Visitation at 9:00 am. and a funeral service at 11:00 am. in the chapel with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm. at the Davis-Green lawn Cemetery (3900 BF Terry, Rosenberg, TX).

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be sent to either the Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church building fund in Alexandria, Louisiana or the First United Methodist Church of Missouri City debt statement fund.
