Willa Mae (Nell) Crout

Willa Mae (Nell) Crout passed on to her maker on March 30, 2016. Her life was filled with many joyous events. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on March 25, 1925. Her parents, Marion and Grace Fann, taught her the true meaning of friendship, responsibility, and love. Their teachings were reinforced by wonderful experiences throughout her life.

Willa grew up in the Groves area of Port Arthur and Buna, Texas. After graduation from high school, she met her soulmate Jack Dorman Crout, who was enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. After they married, they lived in several duty stations associated with Jack's World War II service. When the war ended, they moved to Huntsville, Texas, where Jack attended Sam Houston State College. The following year, they moved to College Station, where Jack received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy at Texas A&M University. Ultimately, Jack's job with the Soil Conservation Service took them to Shamrock, Texas. Some years later, they moved to their long time residence in Rosenberg, Texas. Jack and Willa brought into this world three beautiful daughters, Rebecca, Carla, and Patricia.

Willa was very active in the community and the First United Methodist Church in Rosenberg. She also was a member of the Eastern Star; and sponsored local Brownie and Girl Scout clubs. Her passion was sewing. She was an excellent seamstress. She loved sewing for her daughters, friends and charity groups. There was not a fabric table left untouched. Willa loved cooking and baking. Her home was a favorite stop after school for a snack and ice tea. Willa's other love was playing dominos. She was an extraordinary woman who always supported her loving husband of 61 years, her daughters, son-in-laws, grand children, and friends. Everyone will truly miss her.

Willa was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Grace Fann; her husband, Jack Crout; one brother, Carl Fann; and her beloved daughter, Patricia Lamensky. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca and husband Ralph Reed; daughter, Carla and husband Dudley Latimer; son-in-law, David Lamensky; and brother, William Fann. Nell is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren, Diana and husband Waylan Alexander, Michael Latimer, Hafida and husband David Becker, and Jacqueline Lamensky. Her great-grandchildren include Chelsea, Cass, Jax, and Samantha Alexander; and Ephram and Kamilah Becker.

The viewing will be at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg at 9:00 A. M. on April 4, 2016. The funeral service will be held afterward at the Davis Greenlawn chapel.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Brazos Valley Hospice in Brenham, Texas or The First United Methodist Church in Rosenberg, Texas.
