Johnnie Paul Schacherl, Jr. "JP", 74, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away on April 17, 2016. He was born on March 9, 1942 in Moulton, Texas to Johnnie and May Grasse Schacherl. He honorably served in the National Guard for 6 years. He worked for Baker Hughes for more than 40 years. His hobbies included taking trips to Coushatta, fishing, hunting, playing in softball tournaments, bowling, listening to oldies and watching sports and westerns. He was the proud Poppy to his grandson, Cody and enjoyed teaching him how to barbeque, discussing sports and having breakfast for dinner together at Waffle House. He always had a funny little nickname waiting for his grandson. He also enjoyed making his special batches of beef jerky for his grandson and salsa for his family and friends. This loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend will be missed but never forgotten.

Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Schacherl and May Grasse Schacherl, his sister-in-law, Suzanne Johnson Schacherl. Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Jeannette Schacherl; daughter, Michele Foster; grandson, Cody Foster; siblings, Betty Dupree and husband, Truman and Leon Schacherl and wife, Arline; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Waltman and husband, Pat, Barbara Garrett, Joyce McAvoy and husband, Bob; nieces and nephews, Sara and Keith Schmidt, Lori Dupree, Leah Walters, Tonya Martinez, James Schacherl and wife, Cathrine, Mylissa Waltman, Shane Cliffe, BJ Cliffe, Kristen Garrett, and James McAvoy; great nieces and nephews, Erick and Travis Schmidt, LJ Schacherl; Andrew, Jeffrey and Emily Waltman, and Colby, Kayla and Dylan Cliffe; along with other family and friends.

We want to thank all of the medical doctors, nurses and staff who cared for him during his illness.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with Fr. William D. Bartniski officiating. Burial will follow at Davis-Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.

Pallbearers are Leon Schacherl, Truman Dupree, Pat Waltman, Bob McAvoy, Lucky Biggs, Marshall Schoth and Honorary Pallbearer is Ray Starr.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
