Melvin O. Mayhood, 70, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 22, 2016. He was born April 10, 1946 in Navasota, Texas to Martin Lewis Mayhood and Ella Mae (Lewis) Mayhood. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force. Melvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sugar Land, Texas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking trips to the Casino. Melvin took great pride in planning the family Christmas dinners every year. This loving husband, father, grandfather and friend will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by his brother, Frank Wayne Mayhood and wife, Cindy; nephew, Jason Mayhood, and mother-in-law, Willie Mae Chernosky.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda (Chernosky) Mayhood; daughter, RoxAnne Chennault; son, Justin Mayhood and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Dillion Chennault, Bailey Chennault and Austin Mayhood; siblings, Mary Ella Chernosky and husband, Anton; and Tommy Mayhood; father-in-law, August Chernosky; brother-in-law, Darrell Chernosky and wife, Loretta; nephew, Jeffery Chernosky and wife, Laurie and their children, Adam and Claire Chernosky; along with extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

A service celebrating Melvin's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The burial, with military honors, will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
