Carlyn Travis Spies, of Rosenberg passed away at his residence on June 15, 2016. He was born in Hallettsville, Lavaca County, Texas on March 3, 1939 to Erwin and Louise Spies. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg where he was involved with the Knights of Columbus. He was a Life-Time member of the Fort Bend County Fair Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Carlyn was a loving Popo to his granddaughters and was very involved in the Youth Rodeo watching and helping when his granddaughters were participating. Carlyn and his son, Galen enjoyed refurbishing tractors and participating in tractor pulls. He truly enjoyed having family gatherings during Christmas and Thanksgiving and to celebrate birthdays and special events with the ones he loved. This loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbor and friend will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Louise Spies; and infant brother; brother, Melbert Spies; and great granddaughter, Lainey Parker.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gladys Spies; children, Galen Travis Spies, Vikki Mahoney, and Dinah Font (John); grandchildren, Amanda Parker (Terrance), Courtney Boyd (John), Rachel Novosad (Sean), Ashley Font, Kaitlyn Spies, and Shannon Byrd; great grandchildren, Shelby Kuban, Hailey Kuban, Hailey Parker, Waylon Parker, Heidi Boyd, Maleah Chapa and Michael Chapa; along with extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with Father William D. Bartniski officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
