Gary "Ike" Fredrickson
Gary Lynn "Ike" Fredrickson passed away at his home in Needville surrounded by his family on June 18, 2016. Gary was born on October 21, 1943, to Louis and Mattie Fredrickson. He was a member of the Needville High School Class of 1962 and served stateside in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict achieving the rank of Sargent. On October 18, 1968, he married Linda Sue Wright, and they raised four children together. In the early years of their marriage, Gary worked as a rice farmer with the entire family getting in on the act. But in 1983, he found his true calling when he was sworn in as Fort Bend County Justice of the Peace. He served as a fair and respected judge for 26 years until his retirement in 2008.
Gary was a strong supporter of the Fort Bend County Fair and the Needville Consolidated Youth Fair where he showed the Grand Champion Steer at the very first Youth Fair in 1956. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Church and was the founder and president of the Needville Rodeo Association.
The Judge enjoyed travelling, fishing in Sargent, and ranching. A particular passion of his was the rodeo. He was a champion heeler in team roping and enjoyed watching and participating his whole life. His home place was not complete without an arena where he and his children and grandchildren could practice and hang out with friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Fredrickson and Mattie Redmon, and his brother William Ross "Billy" Fredrickson; step father Lubie Redmon; mother-in-law Sue Yelderman; father-in-law Jake Yelderman; brothers-in-laws Lonnie Wright, John Grey, and James Yelderman. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sue Fredrickson; his sons Dudley Fredrickson and wife Debbie of Damon, Brett Fredrickson and his wife Becky of Needville, Russell Ike Fredrickson and his wife Kim of Needville; his daughter Ginger Sims and her husband Forrest of Montgomery; grandsons Dustin Fredrickson and his wife Kelly of Damon, Reese and Ryan Fredrickson of Needville, and Jesse Hahn of Clute; granddaughters Kelsey Fredrickson of Pearland, Shay Fredrickson of Needville, Molly and Mallory Sims of Montgomery, and Chelsea Winningham of Nazareth, Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren Kendal and Dru Vann-Dutch Fredrickson of Damon; sisters Rebecca Grey of Corpus Christi, Rene Hackstedt and husband C.E. of Needville, Pam Lackey and husband Cecil of Hearne, Jan Snyder and husband Mike of Guy, Cindy Pavlock of Rosenberg, Carolyn Manville and husband Randall of Needville, Judy Johnson of Rosenberg, and Sharon Demel and husband Donald of Needville; and brother Louis "Bo" Fredrickson of Needville; step mother Dorothy Fredrickson of Needville; brother-in-law Neil O. Yelderman and wife Stephanie of Guy; sisters-in-laws Pauline Anderson and husband Mitch of Rosenberg, Eloyce Wright of Damon, and Mary Jane Yelderman of West Columbia; in addition to a great number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn in Rosenberg. Pall bearers will be Bob Livingston, Donnie McKinney, Dustin Fredrickson, Bubba Wied, C.E. Hackstedt, Terry Dickey, John Breland, and Leon Pavlock with honorary pall bearers Reese & Ryan Fredrickson, Levi Davis, Jamie Batchelor, David Eversole, and Chad Elliston. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 with services on Wednesday at 2:00 all at Immanuel Evangelical Church in Needville. There will be a reception following the burial, at Fort Bend County Fair grounds, in building B.
