Vera Ottinger Marietta of Rosenberg was born on March 16, 1934 and passed away from Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, with her family surrounding her. She was born the second child to Dennis and Denzel Ottinger of Richmond at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston. She was a graduate of Lamar High School in Houston and attended the University of Texas in Austin.

She and Charles "Chuck" Marietta married on June 6, 1953. The couple lived in Houston for several years and then they moved to Rosenberg in 1961.

She was preceded by death by her parents, Dennis and Denzel Ottinger; her sister, Marjorie Jewel Bell; and her brother-in-law, Roland Bell.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her husband of fifty-seven years, Charles "Chuck" Marietta; her daughter, Kim Marietta Crouch of Baytown; her daughter, Denise Marietta Kennedy of Rosenberg; her grandchildren, Charles M. Vanderbilt and his wife, Lindsey Vanderbilt of Longview, James A. Scallan of Rosenberg, Kyle J. Scallan of Seabrook, Lacey Vanderbilt of Denton, and Brandon Crouch of Rochelle, Ill. She is also survived by her three great grandchildren, Kristin N. Scallan, Maddox Scallan, and the up-coming birth from Charles & Lindsey Vanderbilt. She also leaves her niece , Crystal Canton, and nephews, John Bell, and Dennis Bell along with other family and friends.

Vera was a long time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Rosenberg and recently joined Calvary Episcopal Church of Richmond.

Vera served as the President of Fort Bend Republican Women's Club for two consecutive years. She was involved with the Fort Bend County Fair Adult Department for many years and was continuously active in her community. She and Chuck were instrumental in the early organization and the development of the Rosenberg Railroad Museum in Historic Downtown Rosenberg.

Vera worked with the Rosenberg Richmond Optimist Club on the "War on Drugs" and received a Certificate of Appreciation in 1989. While serving as president, she and other members initiated organizing a drill team for the detainees which included dressing them in uniforms. She was a devoted Astros fan.

Friends and family will remember her as a great party hostess, for being gracious, and how she filled a room with fun and laughter.
For many years she worked with her husband, father, and brother in law at Charles Marietta Insurance and Ottinger Real Estate.

Friends and family are invited for visitation from 6-9 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2010 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. The funeral will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, 806 Thompson Road in Richmond.

Pallbearers are Charles M. Vanderbilt, James Scallan, Kyle Scallan, former U.S. Congressman Tom Delay, Leroy Parthum, and Bud O'Shieles.
